This is not a job for somebody that expects detailed briefs and everything they need neatly packaged up ready for “wordsmithing”—we really hate that phrase!
Our clients often ask us to create messaging frameworks, advise them on what content to create and develop a point of view. You’ll work as part of a team, but we’ll expect you to quickly start taking on responsibility for talking to clients and developing briefs, researching topics and creating compelling content—from a script for a short video to an 80-page report.
Are you who we’re looking for?
Do you find business and technology fascinating? When you read about self-driving vehicles, do you think about what that means for logistics companies, retailers and insurers? We wouldn’t expect you to understand how a 5G network works, but you should be able to explain what one could do for a business.
Are you a good communicator? You’ll have first-hand contact with our clients, subject matter experts and the other marketing and research agencies that we work with. You should be able to hold your own whether it’s a meeting about defining top-level messaging or an interview with an expert on zero-trust network access.
Can you turn complex ideas into clear and engaging copy? We’re sticklers for detail, but antiquated grammar rules are something up with which we will not put. That Douglas Adams line about deadlines, not funny. Ok it is, but that sort of attitude won’t cut it—unless you’ve got his writing skills too. Hate jargon? So do we.
We don’t expect you to tick all the boxes right away. But you must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of business, excellent writing skills and an eagerness to learn. That’s a deal breaker.
Convince us that you’ve got the right attitude and desire to get on and we’ll be all ears. We’d also be interested if you have experience working with designers or analysing data.
Are we right for you?
We’re a busy agency so you’ll need to be able to multi-task and hit deadlines. We want people who are eager to develop new skills and take on new responsibilities. You’ll get the support and development that you need, but we’ll expect you to put in the effort. That doesn’t mean working 50+ hours a week, but we do have high standards—that’s why clients keep coming back.
We’re offering a competitive salary and all the usual perks—including a generous holiday allowance and profit-related bonus. Ideally, we’re looking for people that can work from our office in Reading town centre at least three days a week, but we’re flexible.
