We’ve been working with Vodafone on its IoT Barometer since the first edition back in 2013. Each year the report has moved on, both in the topics covered and the depth of analysis. This year, the sixth edition, is without doubt the most sophisticated yet.
Each year Vodafone have challenged us to outdo the previous year. For 2019, we pitched creating a sophistication index and interactive site. They loved the ideas and we got to work.
We reviewed the survey and added several new questions to measure IoT users’ strategy and implementation progress. Then, when we had all the data back, we analysed the answers and built a model for the Sophistication Index. Our hypothesis was proven to be on the nail, and we found a very strong correlation between the factors we tested and the benefits derived from adoption. The index worked out so well that it became a major feature of the printed report.
The interactive site consists of two components. The “explore” section enables users to interact with some of the data from the IoT Barometer, to investigate trends and create their own personalised charts. This was primarily designed to encourage bloggers and journalists to cite the report in their articles, but is also useful for customers wanting to build reports and presentations. The “compare” section enables visitors to find out their own level of IoT sophistication. And when they complete the survey, they get the option to register to get their own personalised report, tailored to their region, industry, company size, IoT sophistication and many other factors.
It’s still early days, but the results so far have been fantastic. Try it out for yourself.
As well as the interactive site, we created a number of assets to help promote the new tool including social media posts, an instructional video and emails.
